When starting a blog you have to decide if you want to use the free blog hosting services of a site like Blogger.com and WordPress.com or to host your own blog.

The benefit of using the free blog services is it’s easy to set up and it is hosted for free. Their upgrades are automatic or in the case of wordpress – Automattic.

The downside is you don’t have full control of those sites and they could delete your blog without notice. You also have a sub domain like www.your-username.blogspot.com or www.your-username.wordpress.com

I highly recommend registering your own domain name and purchase hosting (If using GoDaddy check out our GoDaddy Coupon Codes post) and download the WordPress.org blog script. It is very simple to set up with their famous 5-minute installation. You can also choose from a variety of themes to upload or if you want to make your blog really stand out, get a custom made Wordpress theme.

OK, so out of the blue I come out with a post for a contest when my blog isn’t even ready, I haven’t had the time to get it started as I’m busy with several other sites, and the contest isn’t even by me. What gives, you ask?

Well, it’s obvious there is something in it for me to post about the contest. I get 5 entries. They get some exposure on many, many sites, and I get a chance to win some cool stuff.

That Flip Video would definitely come in handy for a new blog that is just starting out as video is becoming an extremely important part of blogging.

I originally planned to start this blog on May 1st and as you can see my first post came on May 9th stating I would be working on it over the next few days…

Well…today is June 1 and nothing has changed on this blog. I haven’t even started.

So the question is…Do I have the time to start this blog?

That is one question you need to ask yourself if you want to start your own blog for the purpose of making money online. You have to find the time in order to post daily. Or at least find the time to write enough posts that you can have them “stored” away for future posting.

I currently run several other websites, as well as a few other blogs. Can I really find the time to post on this and still take care of my other sites and customers? If you already have several projects running and you try to start a new one, it’s possible your other projects could suffer.

Not only do you have to find time for your new blog and still take care of your other websites and blogs, you don’t want to take time away from your family and friends.
